Bathroom renovation step by step

Glazura, terracotta, hydraulics and water transfer – what influences the price of renovation?

Repairing the bathroom is one of the most demanding projects in the house. In addition to aesthetics, it is about functionality, resistance to moisture and compatibility with water and sewage installations. But before you start choosing tiles and fittings, get to know the repair stages and what really affects the price.

Step 1: Planning and design

Before you take the hammer in your hand, you need a plan.
It is important to specify:

  • Bathroom arrangement: Do you want to change the place of the sink, toilet, washing machine, shower or bathtub?
  • Style: Minimalist, classic, lofty?
  • Budget: How much can you spend and what do you care most about?

Why does it affect the price?
The change in the system involves the need to rework the water and sewage system – this significantly increases the cost of labor and materials.

Step 2: Disassembly of old equipment

Remove:

  • Old glaze and terracotta
  • Toilets (washing machines, toilets, baths)
  • Bathroom furniture
  • Lighting and possibly suspended ceiling

Cost?
Dismantling can be cheaper if you do it yourself. A professional company will add man-hours and export debris (sometimes expensive in large cities).

Step 3: Hydraulics and electricians

This is a key step – includes:

  • Exchange of pipes (if old or in bad condition)
  • Transfer of water points (e.g. shift of shower)
  • Power supply to new points (e.g. socket with washing machine)
  • Installation of valves, drains, siphons

Why does it cost?
This is the work of specialists, requiring precision and compliance with building regulations. Each additional point is more work and materials (e.g. elbows, tubes, connectors). The exchange of verticals or the assembly of the plaster racks can raise the price by several thousand zlotys.

Step 4: Preparation of walls and floors

Before the new glaze appears:

  • Walls need to be leveled, grounded
  • Sometimes hydro insulation is necessary (especially in wet zones – shower, bath)
  • On the floor, self-leveling tinctures are used

Cost?
Depends on the condition of the walls and floors. The more curves, the more you pay to level and prepare the ground. Hydroisolate is an extra cost, but a necessary cost.

Step 5: Installation of glaze and terracotta

This is the most time-consuming phase:

  • Tiles need to be cut, fold, level
  • Fugination and impregnation
  • Decorative elements such as mosaics or slats often arrive

What affects the price?

  • Type of tiles (small, mosaics, large format are more expensive in arrangement)
  • Number of cuts and details (e.g. tiles around the linear outflow)
  • Glazurnik experience – better professionals are more expensive, but quality of work compensates for costs

Step 6: Installation of sanitary facilities and furniture

When the tiles are dry:

  • The toilet shall be fitted (mountain or compact)
  • Connects sink and batteries
  • Sets a shower or bath
  • Bathroom furniture, mirrors, lighting are inserted

Price?
A lot depends on the equipment you choose. A toilet with bidet or freestanding bath can cost several thousand zlotys. The assembly itself – if it needs accurate fit – is also more expensive.

Step 7: Finishing and cleaning

It remains:

  • Siliconation
  • Sealing tests
  • Final amendments and thorough cleaning

What else affects the price of the bathroom renovation?

Factor How does it affect the price?
Bathroom area More meters = more materials and work hours
Material Standard Plates for 30 zł/m2 and for 300 zł/m2 is a gap
Modification of the hydraulic system Each shift increases the cost by up to PLN 500–2000
Technical States If you discover damaged pipes, moisture, fungus – cost increases
Availability of professionals In large cities labour prices are much higher

Summary

Bathroom renovation is a complex process that is worth planning well. The key to success is not only aesthetics, but also a thoughtful installation, solid construction and moisture resistant materials. Remember – the most cost changes that are not visible to the naked eye: moving pipes, verticals or electrical points. Therefore, it is worth to have a detailed estimate and design before the renovation starts – to avoid surprises.
